According to the American Kennel Club there are 157 dog breeds. With this huge number of dogs to choose from you should be able to find the right type of dog for you.
The main factors that should go in to helping you decide on what breed of dog to get is to determine your lifestyle, personality, and living conditions.
Living Conditions
Obviously, if you have a small part or condominium that will limit you to what breeds of dogs you should get, this is opposed to someone who has a large house and a large backyard.
You should try and match your dog to your living conditions, because having a big dog in a small apartment simply does not work.
Personality
Find a dog breed that closely fits your personality. If you are more laid back you might want to find a dog like a Labrador retriever or a Bulldog. However if you have a more high-energy personality may be a Chihuahua might be better.
Lifestyle
Some dogs require much more upkeep than other breeds of dogs. Poodles for example require a large amount of upkeep to keep their coats looking nice, whereas other dog breeds, like Labrador retriever, only need to be brushed out once or twice a month.
So if you’re trying to determine what type of dog is good for you keep these factors in mind and don’t rush in to getting a dog today. And most importantly don’t let someone push a dog on to you that you are not sure that you really want.
