What Is a Morkie Dog?

A Morkie is a cross between  a Yorkshire terrier and a Maltese. The name Morkie is derived from combining the names of these two dog breeds together.

The appearance of the Morkie can vary greatly because it is a cross between two dog breeds and it is not a purebred dog.

Yorkshire terrier

The Yorkshire terrier is a small dog that is black and tan, and has a long smooth silky coat.  They generally weigh 7 pounds or less.

Maltese

The Maltese is another small breed of dog that also usually only weighs 7 pounds or less as well, and stands about as high as the Yorkie, which is less than 10 inches in an adult. These dogs are all white in appearance and have a long silky coat.

Morkie Appearance

Now that you know what the Yorkshire terrier looks like and the Maltese, combining these two pictures together and you’ll get what a Morkie could look like.

Morkies could be any combination of white, black, or tan and will usually weigh 7 pounds or less as well.

One of the big advantages of this cross breed is their hypoallergenic coats. This would be a good dog for someone who has allergies. Remember there’s no such thing as an allergy free dog but some dog breeds shed less and have less dander than other dog breeds and the Morkie is one of them.
