Thyroid problems in dogs are not uncommon and if you have a middle-aged dog you should be aware of the clinical signs. Thyroid hormone is one of the most powerful hormones in the body and regulates many processes. One of the main symptoms of a low thyroid level in dogs is lethargy or depression. Dogs will start to lay around more and be much less active. They will also not want to play and in fact even their interests in treats and food will go way down.

Treatment for thyroid problems in dogs is fairly straightforward. It basically involves giving supplemental thyroid hormone in the form of a pill.
