Pumpkin is great for dogs. Pumpkin is a natural laxative and is able to help your dog maintained its digestive health. So if your dog is experiencing constipation gave it some canned pumpkin.
Make sure you give it canned pumpkin and not pumpkin max. You would be surprised that most dogs like the taste of pumpkin and will readily eat it down.
You don’t need to give your dog much pumpkin I’ve given only spoonfuls at most and then see. If there is no movement the next day I would give some more.
If you dog continues to be constipated you should see your veterinarian. One of the main causes of constipation is dehydration. So try to encourage your dog to drink more water or eat foods that have a high moisture content like canned dog food.
Dogs can be constipated for number reasons besides just dehydration. Any illness can cause the digestive process to slow or even stop causing food to build up.
In severe cases of constipation your veterinarian may have to administer an enema. Never give your dog an enema made for humans because they can have high levels of phosphorus.
