Can You Tell Me What Are Dog Exercise Needs?

Dog exercise needs vary a lot depending on the age of the dog, the breed of the dog, but in general, the more exercise the better.

Small breed dogs to belonging to the Toy Group, need very little exercise. In fact, they get most of their exercise just by walking around the house every day.

These would include dogs like Yorkies, Shih Tzu, or Chihuahuas. If you have a larger breed dog obviously they’re going to need exercise outside of the house.

In general, the bigger the dog, for more exercise they need, which means the more exercise you are going to get as well, because you have to walk them.

In general you should walk your dog at least 15 minutes twice a day at a minimum. The walks not only helps to keep their joints healthy, but also gives some cardiovascular health and well.

Remember one of the biggest dangers of pets today is obesity. This comes from too many treats and not enough exercise. So keep a close eye on how much you’re feeding your dog and how much exercise they’re getting.

Weight your dog on a regular basis and from there you can monitor that month to month and see if your dog is putting weight on or losing weight. Using that number you can gauge how much exercise your dog needs.

Remember, if your dog is healthy it is always best to overestimate how much exercise they need rather than under estimate it. Before you start your dog in any weight loss or exercise program you should always have your veterinarian examine your dog exercise needs.
