A puppy kit can be a nice and convenient way to get everything you need for your new pet in one convenient package. While many people may argue about constitutes basic puppy supplies here are some things that I think should be included in every puppy kit.
Crate
A puppy needs his own place to sleep. He should not sleep on the bed with you. Proper crate training can mean a huge difference in your dog’s life.
Stainless Steel Bowls
Don’t let your puppy drink out of plastic bowls. Not only can they chew on them, but these can be hard to sanitize. Two stainless steel bowls, one for food, and one for water should be used.
If your puppy likes to play with the bowls and tip them over you might want to consider buying a no-tip non-skid stainless steel bowl or a Signature Series Feeder.
Shampoo
Puppies get dirty, and you need to keep them clean. Make sure you only use shampoo specifically formulated for a dog’s skin because their pH is different then ours.
Also, by starting to give dog baths when they are young, it will be easier to do when they get older.
Curved Slicker Brush
A good brush can keep your puppy’s coat nice and shiny and can keep a lot of hairballs off of your floor.
Kongs and Rawhide Chews
Puppies love to chew on things, and its best to give them something to chew on rather than waiting until they find your shoes.
Puppy Collar and Leash
All dogs need a collar with an ID tag on it. You should also think about getting your dog micro-chipped as well.
Fleece Bed
Instead of giving your dog an old blanket, why not put a nice fleece bed inside the crate for them.
These are the most basic supplies every new puppy owner should have. One that is very complete and that has high quality equipment is this Puppy Kit.
