Dog Agility Equipment

When it comes to dog agility equipment there are many choices available on the market today. However you just need a few basic items and you can have your very own dog obstacle course.

The basic dog agility equipment usually involves a hurdle, pause square, weave poles, open tunnel, and a start and finish line.

When you first start off using the dog obstacle course equipment you need to have a lot of patience with your dog. It’s not natural for dogs to want to jump over a hurdle, or go through weave polls.

Often for the first several days you may need to actually lead your dog through the course on a leash. You should keep the training sessions short, and reward your dog for anything positive that they do.

It’s very easy for some people to get frustrated with their dogs, especially if they don’t want to go through the open tunnel or want to properly use the pause square. Remember it’s not a natural thing for dogs to know how to use these things.

Another idea on how to better use dog agility equipment is to break down each part of the obstacle course. For example, just have your dog master the open tunnel one day, before moving on to another piece of the obstacle course.

Then as your dog slowly masters one area, move on to another area, or combine two together. For example you could combine just the open tunnel and the weave poles and make a mini obstacle course for your dog.

By slowly building day after day you can soon have your pet comfortably using dog agility equipment.
